Certification Process

The certification process is a validation of the professional Canine Stylist to show their clients and peers that they are willing to expand their knowledge and are dedicated to professional advancement. For employers, it provides a standard they would like their prospective employees to meet.

There are six levels of certification that are available to members of the Canadian Professional Pet Stylists. A passing mark is required on the written and practical tests at each level, to receive a certificate. The Master Groomer test is a written exam only. Once a certificate has been earned, a groomer may refer to themselves as:

• Canadian Canine Groomer Assistant 1 (CCGA1) – a certified Bather/Dryer
  
• Canadian Canine Pet Stylist 1 (CCPS1) – a certified pet groomer
  
• Canadian Breed Profile Specialist 2 - at this level you must specify which breed group you are certified in: CCBPS2 Non Sporting / CCBPS2 Sporting / CCBPS2 Terrier
• Canadian Canine Master Groomer 3 (CCSMG3) – you are a Certified Master Groomer

A mark of 70% is required to pass the CCGA1 Groomer Assistant Bather and Double Coated written and practicals. A mark of 85% is required to qualify for Master Groomer

A mark of 80% is required to pass the CCPS1 Pet Stylist written and practical. In order to qualify for the CCPS1 Pet Stylist level, the CCGA1 Groomer Assistant certification must have been passed. The CCPS1 level is not a requirement for Master Groomer.

A mark of 70% is required to pass the CCBPS2 Sporting, Non Sporting, and Terrier levels. A mark of 85% is required to qualify to write the CCMG3 Master Groomer exam.

Certifications are held all over the country. Wherever there are enough groomers in one area wanting to do some certifying we will set up a certification. They are done on a cost recovery basis; as long as there are enough testing fees generated to cover the expenses of the Certifiers, we will send them. A current membership is required for testing and groomers must pre-register and prepay, with the head office, using the online forms. If there is enough attendance, the certification will go ahead and groomers will be notified of their start times.

If there are no scheduled dates in your area, contact our Head Office and we’ll see if one can be arranged. All we need is the donation of the use of a grooming shop that has space for 3-4 tables and the use of the tubs.

REPLACEMENT CERTIFICATES

If your certificates become lost or damaged, replacements can be ordered from our head office, for a fee:

• Current Member - $15.00 for the first one, $10.00 each after
• Non Current Member - $25.00 for the first one, $20.00 each after
